Methodology
We first created a seed list using articles like Harper Bazaar, Vogue and WhoWhatWear to highlight the most popular classic luxury handbags. We then sourced the number of searches using the Google Keyword Planner over the last four years (Feb 2021- Jan 2025) and calculated an overall average.
To determine the most coveted bags of the year, we created a seed list of popular designer bags using articles such as Elle and Russh, noting their release date (we look at designer bags released from 2023-2025). We also used Google Keyword Planner to gather data on the total number of searches across the last 12 months.
Using the websites of luxury brands such as Chanel and Bottega Veneta, we researched the current cost of each bag. Because this data was unavailable for some prestige brands, like Hermès, we used alternative reputable sites such as Rewind Vintage, Farfetch, and Harrods to gather this information.
To measure the popularity of each designer bag and brand, we used social media data, including Instagram and TikTok. We collected the total number of hashtags used for the associated luxury brand and bag. Data for these factors was completed on 13/02/2025.
