Methodology
The data in this study is accurate as of November 2024.
Beginning with a list of celebrity friends and foes taken from list articles, we used Google Ads’ Keyword Planner to find the total searches for each pair from October 2023 to September 2024.
For fictional friends and enemies, we used Google Ads’ Keyword Planner to find the total number of searches for “friends/enemies [merch]”, “friends/enemies [art]”, “friends/enemies [t shirt]”, “friends/enemies [poster]”, “friends/enemies [clips]”, “friends/enemies [scene]”, and “friends/enemies [youtube]”.
We used Instagram and X (formerly Twitter) to find each celebrity’s total social following. For friend pairs, we combined these figures to calculate the total social media following. For enemy pairs, we calculated the percentage difference between social media followings.
To find the most publicised friendships and feuds, we used Buzzsumo to calculate the total number of articles featuring the names of pairs of friends and enemies over the past 12 months.
We used list articles to find the total length of feuds and friendships in years. The feud between Liam and Noel Gallagher was removed from the data as searches and articles could be skewed due to news of their reunion.
