Methodology:

We began by using sources such as Home and Texture, Elle Decor and Love Property to create a list of the most expensive celebrity homes. All values are estimated and properties may now have been sold or changed in value.

Next, we visited the Architectural Digest YouTube channel to discover the top 50 most-viewed celebrity home videos in their Open Door series. Tyler Perry and Terry Crews were removed from the list due to their episodes not being focused on their actual house. They were instead replaced with Ashley Tisdale and Big Sean.

We recorded both the number of views and likes on each video. We then used the ‘Return YouTube Dislike’ Chrome extension to discover the number of dislikes on each video. The number of views, likes and dislikes is correct as of 24 October 2024. Google Keyword Planner and Ahrefs were then used to record the total number of searches for each celebrity’s house (e.g. “kendall jenner house”) between October 2023 and September 2024. We then gave each of the four factors a normalised score out of ten before taking an average across all factors to form our popularity score.

We used the Google searches mentioned previously to form our ranking of the most-searched-for celebrity homes.

Finally, we used sources such as Homes and Gardens, Livingetc and House Beautiful to create a seed list of popular interior design trends. We then gathered the number of Instagram and TikTok posts under each trend’s relevant hashtag (e.g. #vintagefurniture). This data is correct as of 24 October 2024. Google Keyword Planner was used to record the total number of searches for each trend between October 2023 and September 2024. We then gave each of the three factors a normalised score out of ten before taking an average across all factors to form our popularity score. Celebrity fans of each trend were discovered by using Google and the Architectural Digest YouTube channel.
